It did. It was called Milky Holmes and it was about as GA as this current era of anime fan would be able to take, an actual Galaxy Angel revival or remake would remove the humor and turn the characters into painful cliches. And yes we did know how good we had it, I was starting to digisub in groups shortly after Di Gi Charat's first season. The early 2000s were great and even now serve as a goldmine of great series nobody seems to know about.

It's completely comparable, it's a media-mix broccoli production with no canon source material whereby the anime takes a comedic surreal twist from the rest of the franchise on purpose.

Di Gi Charat, Galaxy Angel and Milky Holmes are spiritual successors of each other, updated to parody current anime of the time.

Of the original trilogy, which games did you anons like the best?

For some reason I liked Moonlit the most, because the beginning was so easygoing, and seeing how each angel individually reacted to Chitose was great. Each game had something I really liked about it though.

Soundtrack goes to EL, since it has every song from the two games beforehand while giving us a few new songs. The new combat theme and Val-Fasq theme are still my favorites.

The way I see it, the first one was pretty much the best while ML and EL have different formulas in tackling how the routes went.

ML had routes branch into the bigger route while EL just had the entire "you're on this girl's route'" feeling the entire time.

But the second series is so good, you anons really need to try em

Crew to crew interactions work a lot better making the characters feel a lot better than the ones in the first series. Since the MC is the same rank as the Angel Wing, he has a lot of different interactions than a commander would.

AKA, respect isn't mandatory so it makes for much livelier crew.

Also helps that he fights with them so he can pull more action stunts and have more romantic conflict

That always really bugged me about the Hell Hounds. They could have probably been cool characters, but they didn't do shit with them.

Even if only one survived (somehow) and went on to be part of the remnants in ML for whatever angel's route you did, they could have probably done something more interesting with them.

Easiest mission following. I don't even need to look

So playing the first two chapters, here's what I learnt of the differences between combat in the two trilogies. (other than Kazuya)

Comparing the second series to the first one:

Energy consumption is huge compared to the 1st game, while you won't be healing as much, you'll be going to resupply a lot more often.

Then there's everyone's special attacks. The 2nd game is a lot more forgiving on this regard since everybody will usually pull it off at least once in a fight. The 1st game usually had your chosen Angel use it the most but that's not the case as much in the 2nd series.

The damage is really low in the 2nd series it seems. Ranpha usually gets wrecked if she isn't supported by even the fastest fighter in the 2nd game isn't blown out of the way.

The PCSX2 isn't able to do the disk-swap feature so unless I go invest money in a PS2 and all three games, we won't be seeing our MC being forced to crossdress or Natsume's route

Balance wise that sounds great. My biggest problem with the first game in the first trilogy was the fact that enemies go down so damn easy. Especially the cruiser types.

How useful is the new ship in the second series? The Elsior is painfully under armed being just a ceremonial ship. In subsequent playthroughs I ended up challenging myself by having the Elsior fight alongside the Angel Wing instead of just keeping my distance.

The new ship Luxiole is pretty good when it comes to fighting. But once again, size and lack of speed makes it an easy target. That being said, it's just below the allied Cruiser in terms of firepower when compared to the first game.

I say that because you get like 2 fights with allies in the entirety of the second series.

Lorewise, The Luxiole was commissioned as the successor to the Elsior and was given a lot of new shit. If you manage to play the second games, that feature is pretty surprising

Gonna put this up before I talk about final fights

Final fights get mad props from me and are a massive improvement over the final fights in the first series of games.
GA had you blasting through satellites while getting the Elsior to the opposite edge of the map. It was meh.
ML removed your strongest fighter and had the rest of the 5 doing the same thing, only fast ships closed in on the Elsior and it a big improvement.
EL was an all out battlefield with everyone present and the final ship was pretty tough to kill.

ZRnT (look at the OP) basically does an EL. Only it was somewhat lackluster in hindsight. The final mission had 11 Emblem Frames against one bigass ship. While admittedly very tough to take down, it really was just for everyone to gang up on.
MKnK had the best final mission. You 7 ships to command while protecting the Luxiole (main ship) to the edge of the map. So similar to GA and ML. Only thing is that the enemy's main ship isn't stupid and takes chances to fire at you too. So you're constantly changing directions with the Luxiole while making sure the fighters aren't gunned down by the laser too.
EKnT seems easy as hell at first since before you even destroy a single ship, everyone gets their specials charged up and everybody starts to yell. Then you realize the bigger ships have special attacks as well and aim at the Luxiole for potshots. The main enemy's ship also takes a lot to take down but then like the 2nd game shoots its own massive weapon at given locations.

I won't spoil what's actually behind these fights so yeah

Anise is introduced as an enemy trying to get some money by stealing Kazuya's Emblem Frame but apparently she was affiliated with Mint's company and the destruction of some property led to her to being recruited to the Angel Wing to pay off debt

What's nice is that both parties try in the 2nd series tries to solve the problem instead of Tact doing fucking everything

Di Gi Charat was made by them to be their mascot I think. While they're around still, >>111443793 is how it is. Broccoli actually had plans to bring the series over for localization, but it fell through at some point. Probably after their American branch packed up and left. Damn shame.

That was in regards to the English-speaking popularity if I remember. Hardliner Japanese meaning the English fans who only liked the sub and hated the dub. I think that was the explanation he gave me when I asked.

Seeing as Bandai or Broccoli decided it was worth it to make BD sets, I'm guessing some of them still like the show. I couldn't find any sales data though.

GA and ML had the same opening while EL had its separate theme.

Same thing goes for ZRnT and MKnK while EKnT has it's own theme.

You could probably still find the first of those Mint figures somewhere since it was a regular production completed figure. The other two though are kits you have to paint up made by indie manufacturers. GKs are like the doujinshi of the figure world. Getting them would be just about impossible unless you can find a recast, which is what E2046 usually sells.

I honestly don't think there are many that combine the VN aspect along with this game play aspect.

For the RTS, you'll mostly just find a lot of sci-fi games where you control fleets of a higher scale compared to the relatively small-scale conflicts found in GA.

I really can't think of a top down game, but if you're interested in issuing commands while watching from a 3rd person camera and having small scale conflict, Star Trek Bridge commander is the closest, and even that is a huge crapshoot away and nowhere near as streamlined as GA. And not animu. (though it is a damn good game with the right mods)

Not that I know of. I was considering learning how to time subs to rip from the old fansubs, but I'd probably do a really shitty job since I barely know what I'm doing. I only downloaded the rips so I can see how much better the quality was compared to the old fansubs.

ML seriously ruined Mint for me; I went in having already heard there was a bunch of bullshit surrounding Lushati, but after it wasn't actually that bad on the other routes I wasn't ready for it on Mint's route. Thank god I was playing Chitose route last so I didn't end the game on a sour note. And routes aside, one of the lamest things about ML was how shitty the Angel Wing's damage is against Val-Fasc battleships (and fighters too for that matter). Especially that final mission without the heroine; the Angels are basically distractions while I micromanage my battleships and cruisers to kill everything
