Do you read LNs /a/?
>>
>>110934345
Nope.
>>
I buy about 5-6 LNs by month.
Though I don't care about stuff like SAO, Mahouka, Index and other shit

>>
>>110934685
I don't think LNs are too complex with language
>>
>>110934716
He probably just doesn't have the confidence to read things without a text catching tool.
Novels in general are pretty easy to read and even those aimed at adults use lots of furigana
>>
Read a real book, suckers.
>>
>>110934901
>real book
>>
>>110934805
I don't really bother using those text catching tools.

Well, I'm not about to try reading Bakemonogatari, anyway.
>>
If I could understand the tongues of moons, I probably would. Aren't a lot them basically YA with some illustrations?

I just end up reading the occasional fan translation if there's a show I like that's based on one.
>>
>>110935346
>Aren't a lot them basically YA with some illustrations?
Hence 'light' novel.

I just finished Horizon V1 and am reading Owari no Chronicle chapters as they come out.
Both are glorious and criminally underappreciated.
>>
>>110934345
Not yet, but maybe my Japanese is good enough by now that I can make some headway into a few series I've been looking into.
>>
I don't know moon to navigate amazon.co.jp let alone read books.
>>
>>110934345
Well, that was pretty easy. I guess Bake is not that hard as some fags make it out to be.
>>
>>110935716
I could read it too, but man, that's literally one of the first pages in the whole series.

Or maybe you're being sarcastic, I dunno.

Don't those have a good following in moonland?

Apparently still not easy enough for LN translators who actually understand it properly to complete a translation

then wouldn't they be finished with the translation

No. Understanding something and producing a translation are different things.

If that counts then this is light novel too.
>>
>>110942845
You mean to the 2-row format right? Every Nisio book is like that, OP is from bakemonogatari. Do LN usually use only one row per page?

What's that in your image anyway?
>>
>>110942845
What is this? Some sort of detective novel about a disappearing corpse?
Writing is a bit stiff but it looks interesting

LNs in general never use that format.

>LNs in general never use that format.
It would dumb to treat that as a hard rule, like it were supposed to be some kind of defining trait.

Monogatari series uses two row format and it's counted as LN (e.g., http://www.oricon.co.jp/entertainment/ranking/2013/bookrank1202/index26.html )
>>
Yes I do as practice but I'm too impatient to stop and look up the meaning of every kanji I don't know (fantasy stories are the worst) so it doesn't end up being very good practice at all.
>>
>>110944076
Yeah, I remember reading that Nisio considers him one of the authors he took inspiration from the most. Consider my interest piqued.

Is the series easy to find online?
>>
Are there epub version of this shit? Maybe I'll start reading it soon.

You could also use Calibre and just convert your PDFs and other files.

>>
>>110946095
Mushoku Tensei is great however the translation for vol 6 seems to be pretty shitty so I stopped reading there.
>>
>>110944378
Can you find me another LN with that format? I honestly don't treat Monogatari as a LN, but I'm willing to accept it as one. Of all the LNs I've read, Monogatari's the only one with that format.

I'll be sure to read all the titles that you can find with that format that's considered LN.
>>
I recently bought the babby level edition of Haruhi, that has furigana. I can only understand 30-40% of the kanji at the moment and need google translate to make sense of most sentences, but it's a start.

I've been reading DenYuuDen. The anime was great, but the LN is so stretched out I've pretty much given up.

There's like one plot-relevant event per 500 pages. I'm not sure if the author is a hack or a genius for the amount of padding he can cram in.
>>
>>110946599
Nice. I'll see if there is a aozora txt of those. I fucking love when I find a book I want to read in that format.
>>
>>110946823

The anime made me pick it up too, but every volume is literally the exact same shit

>Sion: "I'm going through excruciating pain every moment of my life. Ryner, do your work lol"
>Ryner: "Are you the devil!?!? Die! I'll kill you, I swear I'll kill you! Die! Die, die, I'm going to sleep"
>Ferris: "dango dango dango dango"
>Sion: "Also buy the separate side stories where I tell more about my suffering."

Why is Mushoku Tensei so popular?

It's selling only average compared to the other Narou novels?

Here's Knight's and Magic too for completion's sake.

Self-inserting, a powerful force
>>
>>110946521
Not that guy, but unless you don't consider stuff by Nisio Isin LN as a whole (which is indeed acceptable) all of his works use that format. Zaregoto just to mention one.

Random anon here, this is actually kind of a pain. Editing for proper chapter support, translation notes, nicely arranged/sized images, epub standards is pretty time consuming. Though I guess if you just need something quick and dirty it's better than nothing. I just wish I had the time to give proper epubs back to the community of whatever I read. Maybe if I get this volume self-satisfactory and find it's easy enough to adapt volumes or other novels into a "template" then I will continue.

Though I'm contemplating just running an android emulator on my device and just reading through BakaReader.
>>
>>110947311
That's cause he chose to debut with Kodansha, which literally doesn't have a LN branch until recently. He's literally the exception to the norm.
>>
>>110947246
I like LNs that have decent world building.
>>
>>110947282
Hence why I only compared to other Narou novels, which can also be said to be self-inserting.

>>110947515
It's not the only one.
>>
>>110947416
>not writing your own epub generator for BT

>>
>>110947880

>>
I wish there were more sci-fi LN. More sci-fi media in general would be nice.
>>
Why does title of LN continue to get longer?
It is no longer title, but it is sentence.
>>
>>110948408
Why are so many anime commercials formatted like PSA's?
>>
>>110947945
My apologies for assuming, but I'm just trying to understand why people seem to fawn over this title in particular instead of Knight's and Magic etc. (which is also fairly high on ranking at Narou).
>>
>>110948610
If it's popularity on /a/ it might be due to a couple of us mentioning it every now and then. Not sure about other places, I'll look into them now that you've piqued my interest.
>>
>>110947416
Yeah, I was thinking more in a way so I could learn japanese, so my thoughts were in japanese books mostly. Is there a way to find the originals in epub format?
>>
>>110947416
I never did get around to updating that chapter on Baka-Tsuki.
>>
>>110949009
No clue, I think that LNs are more of a market for physical collectors though

>>110949087
Ah, there's a name I recognize from the quick little credits page I threw together at the end. Nice to meet you here seeing as I don't visit these threads often.
>>
>>110948007
Isn't there plenty of sci-fi LNs? I mean, I don't see space opera shit often, but sci-fi is common enough.

I prefer fantasy myself, though.
>>
>>110949931
There are tons. The whole medium that would later be called light novels pretty much started with Sonorama, who largely published sci-fi stuff back in the 70's and 80's.
>>

Like what?
>>
>>110951053
I really should just read the raws myself. I've been reading the ongoing novel of the author's and have been liking it, and although the protagonist isn't nearly as competent as Orba, he does at least have a fairly consistent character.
>>
>>110950242
Really? What happened
>>
>>110953001
I don't remember all the details but the last volumes was about Orba fending off a major invasion attempt from the empire in the east. It ended by saying Orba clashed with the Mad King (or something) twice in history, but contemporary sources says thrice.

And that's it, I wonder if it was intentional or just rushed.
>>
>>110953396
Sounds really stupid.
>>
>>110953686
Maybe, but considering all that fluff has nothing to do with Orba's vengeance, I supposed it's fine to stop writing before the material becomes stale.

>>
>>110953999
What are you using Anki for? I personally did it for two months for Heisig, mostly passively while playing games. I haven't tried learning grammar/words with it, but I'd recommend manga and later VNs for that, especially if you can't stand flashcards.

Manga is awesome for learning. Really awesome. Do it.
