So what are you watching from before the year 2000 /a/?
I've finally made it into the UC OVAs after finishing Char's Counterattack.
Was Tomino depressed in the late 80s? Cause CC sure makes it feel like that.
That's the detective one, right? How is it? I think it's in my bakabt wishlist.
Tomino was never involved in the UC OVA's Ironic because they turned out better when he isn't in it.
>Watching War in the Pocket in the Summer.
Shit, nigger what are you doing?
>Shit, nigger what are you doing?
E-Enjoying great character development a-and story?
And from what I've seen of UC Gundam so far, Tomino is a bit erratic is terms of quality. Though when he's great, he's really great along with the inverse being true.
It's fun and silly, worth watching if you want a good laugh.
Just finished SDF Macross and DYRL. I loved them, but am afraid of what the rest of the franchise is like, if I delve deeper into it one day.
Starting the Patlabor Early Days OVA tonight.
you will never have a wedding keiki shaped like the Macross ;_;
I enjoyed ZZ's lighthearted nature a bit, though it does kind of shit its pants in the last 5 episodes or so.
I am not watching currently anything... just finished few things. I am probably gonna watch a few movies or OVAs now before starting another series. Webm related, probably gonna watch it now.
I come back for more tiddies.
So, is VOTOMS heavy on politics?
I liked second Patlabor movie, but it isn't that easily digestible like the first movie and got a bit less air time for the most of the cast. So I would say that I probably liked first Patlabor movie more.
>the only time you get to see ZZ's best tits is when they die
How is it so far? I've heard it's one of the better Gundam shows in general.
I'm at episode 4 and the pacing is pretty crazy, one second something is happening and the next the show moves on to something completely different and then back again and then to that other thing again
I don't think I'm far enough yet though, not to give any thorough judgment.
I like how it's set in the far future. So far that humanity on Earth has been reset to turn of the century/industrial era stuff. Then on the other hand the people that settled the moon ages ago are still there and far more advanced. The problem is they want to settle on Earth again and the more primitive Earth people for the most part don't even know these moon people exist. Well it's pretty crazy so far.
Then there is all the nudity, I've never seen an MC and cast be so nude so often.
Also after all the modern "kyaaa he's naked in front of mer pervert baka!" stuff it's weird to see a girl be so composed around a naked guy while also being barely clothed.
You're breaking my heart, Sato.
Just wondering, is Mobile Suit Gundam supposed to be kind of crap?
I find myself hating the federation, and Char is by far the one with the most character to him.
As a matter of fact, Zeon is fucking great, and they have far more going for them as a whole.
I don't think anyone who perpetrates war in Gundamn isn't portrayed that nicely, both sides do some pretty horrible things by the end of the day.
>is Mobile Suit Gundam supposed to be kind of crap?
Also both sides are supposed to be fleshed out which was revolutionary at the time, and it's probably a matter of preference which one you end up liking. I like Kai and Amuro and Bright enough to be a smelly feddie.
I really wish there was more of him in Zeta, I really grew to like his character as an adult much more than when he was younger.
As someone who generally doesen't like gundam shows, I was told by gundam fans that Turn-A was the gundam to gundam if you don't gundam gundam.
I didn't really care for it. The second half of the series made no sense at all. It felt like what they were building in the first half was just totally ignored and they turned it into something completely different. Something where atrocities were forgiven in the drop of a hat for no real good reason other than "Welp, I switched sides."
I'm also a huge 0079fag so whatever.
>As someone who generally doesen't like gundam shows, I was told by gundam fans that Turn-A was the gundam to gundam if you don't gundam gundam.
Eh, I would've recommended 0080 since it didn't have the usual trappings that put off non-fans from Gundam (Illogical characters and motivations, story direction etc.). Give that one a try.
His dad designing the robot was pretty old but at least it wasn't the only requirement to pilot it.
I just finished it and thought it was damn good, along with
bittersweet as hell
ZZ has some of the cutest bitches son.
Is Victory actually worth watching? I'm kind of on the fence about it.
You either love it or hate it. It's Tomino's depression at his best or worst YMMV. Also, 52 episodes with almost no stock footage is an amazing feat considering it's from the early 90's.
Anything pre-2000 works, so no worries really.
Might as well ask here, but has anyone gotten their hands on the Record of Lodoss War remasters? I heard they're amazing but I wanna see samples to see if I can replace my original version.
english dubKiki's Delivery Service
I used to own the VHS but I lost it, so I haven't seen it in years
It's so safe and comforting, I love this movie
Macross Plus is great so you should at least watch that.
Macross 7 is polarizing. It took culture vs. militarism theme to the extreme. If the original was a bit silly then Macross 7 went full retard with spirit energy, and space demons, and song lasers. Personally I hate it but a lot of people like it.
Macross Zero is mediocre. It's boring and it has a very heavy handed environmentalist message.
Macross Frontier is nice. It's an anniversary series so it doesn't really do anything new but there are many references to the older shows. It's not the most original show but it's enjoyable.
Currently watching 08th MS team. It's really atmospheric and the characters are great so far. When I'm finished with that I'm going to start war in the pocket.
Speaking of Gundam, how much does Zeta reference 0079? I literally haven't seen 0079 in a decade and don't remember shit besides the most basic plot details and Amuro/Char, no way I can remember side characters and subplots
Quite a lot of characters from 0079 show in the first half, along with the fact Char is in the entirety of the show.
Good, because he's the best part in my opinion, just damn enjoyable in every scene.
Guy isn't perfect, even he knows that. Characterizations are kind of all over the place in CCA, probably because the story of CCA should have been ZZ's story.
I honestly don't have a very high opinion of the guy. He's vindictive, hypocritical and manipulative. Generally not a guy you'd want to buddy up with. I'd rather be with Yazan. At least he's honest about being scum.
>I'd rather be with Yazan
He went from actually threatening to complete buffoonery during the transfer from Zeta to ZZ.
Reading Johnny Ridden's manga made him cool again.
Your enjoyment of Macross 7 will depend in a large part on how much you like Basara. If you think he's an obnoxious twat, which is an opinion that nobody can really fault you for having, it's going to be a rough ride.
Then he thought if he couldn't get girls, he might as well get the closest thing to a girl he could find.
>If you think he's an obnoxious twat, which is an opinion that nobody can really fault you for having, it's going to be a rough ride.
I sort of thought this up until the last episode and then the OVA's. Basara is fucking amazing, he's a goddamned savant. The last sequence in the last episode was like some music video you'd see on one of those late night music channels years ago.
The shift to rock was great http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYDiFfu5tLQ
and so was the shifting of the stage, Basara was Ichigo and Minmay combined and then turned up to 11. His only true lover in the show was the utah.
My internet is really bad, so I have to pick and choose what I download. I save things on there to download later.
Don't forget all those shitty "rivals" that appeared throughout the series with a mounting desire to defeat the Turn A but they never really amounted to much and just kinda petered out to be replaced with another.
Well it has a pretty big (or pretty vocal) fan base but I feel it's a bit unfair to compare it with the rest of Gundam given how much it deviates, similar to how I would rather compare G Gundam with other super robot anime.
>My internet is really bad, so I have to pick and choose what I download.
An internet cap or something?
I don't know why you'd use the bakabt wishlist over the likes of a notepad file.
I honestly didn't even really think of that.
The condensed story was for the better, the culture being the undermining point was great but the social experiment stage involving the Zentradi/Humans living together was a bit rocky.
DYRL was great for how they finished up the love story Hayase is second best girl in Macross.
